2018-01-08FreeType version 2.9, the first release of a new‘minor’ series, is now available for download. The main reason for starting a new series is Ewald Hew'sGSoC contribution of making Adobe's CFF engine handleType 1 fonts also, greatly improving the renderingquality of this ancient but still important fontformat. If you are going to use variation fonts, please update tothis version since it comes with some important fixes.More information on this and other changes can befound. FreeType 2.8.1. 2017-09-16FreeType 2.8.1 has been released. This is mainly amaintenance release with one important change: By default,FreeType now offers high quality LCD-optimized outputwithout resorting to ClearType techniques of resolutiontripling and filtering. In this method, called Harmony, each color channel is generatedseparately after shifting the glyph outline, capitalizingon the fact that the color grids on LCD panels are shiftedby a third of a pixel.
Glyph 2 download free for Windows. Uncover, harness and unleash the mysterious energy held within Glyphs buried deep below the surface of Kuros and, ultimately, heal this dying world. With 5 elemental worlds, stunning graphics, an all-new world-development feature, mini-tasks and powerful mouse gestures that unleash level-altering.
This output is indistinguishablefrom ClearType with a light 3-tap filter.Seefor a extensive list of changes; noteworthy bug fixes arecorrect handling of B/W TrueType hinting and some OpenTypevariation font handling issues. FreeType 2.8. 2016-09-08We start a new ‘minor’ series, which finallyallows us to activate a new default mode for bytecodehinting (see also the announcements below for version2.6.4 and 2.6.5): Subpixel hinting, also known asClearType hinting. In case you are already using subpixel hinting (forexample, by using the ‘Infinality patches’ asprovided by some GNU/Linux or BSD distributions, ordirectlyfrom ),be noted that the new mode might provide subtledifferences; the code was simplified to makeit much faster. If you are used to the oldfull-pixel hinting, you will see many rendering changes. If you really dislike them, you can disable them atcompile time or using thenew FREETYPEPROPERTIES environmentvariable.A description of the remaining changes can befound,as usual.
FreeType 2.6.5. 2016-07-12This release is almost identical to the previous version, with two differences. It compiles again on Mac OS X, and. it reverts the activation of subpixel hinting bydefault; it will be enabled by default in theforthcoming 2.7.x series. Main reason for revertingthis feature is the principle of least surprise: asudden change in appearance of all fonts (even if therendering improves for almost all recent fonts) shouldnot be expected in a new micro version of aseries.FreeType 2.6.4.
2015-11-28FreeType 2.6.2 has been released. This is a minorrelease that mainly provides better handling of malformedfonts. All users should upgrade.A new feature is stem darkening support for theauto-hinter. Note, however, that it is off by default, since most graphic systems don't provide correct linearalpha blending with gamma correction, which is crucial fora good appearance. For the same reason, stem darkeningfor the CFF engine is now off by default, too.Seefor a more detailed list of changes.
FreeType 2.6.1. 2014-12-06FreeType 2.5.4 has been released. All users shouldupgrade due to another fix for vulnerability CVE-2014-2240in the CFF driver.
The library also contains a new roundof patches for better protection against malformedfonts. The main new feature, which is also one of the targetsmentioned in the pledgie roadmap below, is auto-hintingsupport for Devanagari and Telugu, two widely used Indicscripts. A more detailed description of the remainingchanges and fixes can befound. New Pledgie Campaign. 2014-03-11This is a call for ato support my (Werner Lemberg)expenses in 2014. Thanks to all donors, the was successful, and all goals have beenreached! If your company is using FreeType in your product, andyou care about continuing support and further development, please contribute to my funding effort so I can continueto bring the best text rendering to your devices!Alternatively, direct donations to my PayPal account arealso highly welcome:-) RoadmapBesides user support and fixing bugs, your money willhelp me implement the following issues.
Setting up a test framework for FreeType. This is ahuge, long-term undertaking that will ensure bothstability and reliability of the library. The idea isto collect test cases (mainly broken fonts) that coveras much source code as possible. Another idea toinvestigate is the development of scripts that cangenerate both valid and invalid input data tosystematically increase the coverage of executed librarycode, including the unlikely cases. Finally, images ofvalid, well-rendered input fonts could be collected: Assoon as a change to the rendering image gets applied, acomparison run with those images should detect renderingregressions.
Further improvements to the auto-hinter. Right now,the module for Indic support is a dummy, and support forthe family of Arabic scripts is completelymissing.
FreeType 2.9 comes withauto-hinting support for almost all scripts wherehinting makes sense. Both investigation andresearch is necessary to find out how much auto-hintingis possible and useful, and whether other, completelydifferent scripts can be supported at all. Right now, rendering Type 1 and CID-keyed fontsis the weakest part of FreeType. However, we now have abrand-new module for handling CFF.
Given that CFF isvery similar to Type 1, it should be not toodifficult to use and/or extend the CFF code so thatType 1 fonts can be handled, too. This was a GSoC project in2017, and the resulting code has been merged intoFreeType 2.9.
Explore whether it makes sense to merge FreeType with(parts of)the library.Since version 2.5.3, FreeType already links to HarfBuzzto use its abilities for scanning OpenType layoutfeatures, and more integration might be sensible forboth libraries. More improvements to this website. Last year I’veredesigned the FreeType website. However, a large bunchof documents are still using the old design, and some ofthem are also no longer up todate.
As with version 2.6.0, theFreeType Tutorial has been updated.FreeType 2.5.3. 2013-11-25FreeType 2.5.1 has been released, providing three majornew features.

Support for the WOFF font format, contributed byBehdad Esfahbod. The auto-hinter now supports Hebrew, together withimproved support for Cyrillic and Greek. The directory layout of the (installed) FreeTypeheader files has been simplified.Among other changes I want to mention that FreeType'sTrueType debugger ( ttdebug) has been made moreversatile. An exhaustive list of changes can befound. Pledgie Campaign Was Successful!
2013-06-19FreeType 2.5 has been released. A major new feature issupport for color embedded bitmaps (eg. Color emoji),contributed by Behdad Esfahbod on behalf of Google.Additionally, Adobe's CFF engine is now the default, whichmakes a good reason to change from the 2.4.x to the 2.5.xseries.On the technical side, the property API to accessFreeType module parameters ( FTPropertySetand FTPropertyGet) is now declared as stable. As usual, see for the complete release notes, which give moredetails. And we have again blog entriesfromand. Please download the 2.5.0.1 bundle of the FreeTypelibrary, which fixes a packaging error. – an OpenType assembler and disassembler–a free, powerful graphical font editor, including aTrueType instructions debugger (using FreeType)– a free, powerful OpenType viewing tool with aTrueType instructions debugger ( not usingFreeType)–a tool to auto-hint TrueType fonts, based on FreeType'sauto-hinting engine Font Shaping and Layout EnginesThese libraries work on top of font rendering librarieslike FreeType to provide sophisticated text (string)layout, being able to handle OpenType features inparticular.
